New interface
Offline Explorer 5.0 introduces a new and exciting Office 2007-like interface. This new Ribbon-style interface makes it faster and easier to locate the powerful features in Offline Explorer by replacing standard menus and toolbars. All commands and buttons are now grouped according to the tasks you perform, and most commands can be accessed in two to three clicks.
As a result, you will find it much easier and quicker to create and perform downloads, view the results and manage your projects.
The Larger button images are much easier to identify on the larger screens. If you run Offline Explorer on a smaller screen, or decide not to maximize it, the program will automatically adjust the button size to keep them visible by using smaller images, grouping them one above another.
The Quick Access toolbar has the most important commands (Exit, Undo, Save, Pause and Stop), regardless of the selected Ribbon tab. You can customize it easily to add more commands.
The Ribbon menu can be also minimized to maximize screen space for your Projects and the Internal Browser.
The Internal Browser tabs can now be closed with a single click on their “X” button and you can access the list of all open tabs with the “V” button on the right.
You can also view the download speed progress on the graph in the status bar. Just point your mouse to the graph to view the statistics covering the last sixty seconds.
Many of the dialog boxes have been re-designed to make them easier to use, and less cluttered.
The URL Filters section of the Project Properties dialog allows the user to specify the inclusion and/or exclusion of keywords with the “Load from starting…” selection.
The Content Filters were completely re-designed to make them more visual and to provide the user with more options.
The color of the Projects tree can be now changed, so a user can now have projects with different colors. The color selector is located on the View tab. This will help users to easily distinguish one project from another.
Performance
The parsing code has been optimized to increase the speed in processing the download of files. The Offline Explorer Enterprise Edition will utilize all cores of your CPU for multithreaded parsing to handle several times more files at once.
Overloaded directories are now cached in memory to improve speed when accessing them.
New Power Features
We improved our search feature in several areas:
-
The “Index downloaded files” box option in the Project Properties dialog will add all words in the downloaded Web pages to a database, and searching with the Find Contents dialog will take only seconds, even for Projects with thousands of files. When you browse the files found in a search in the Internal Browser, it will automatically scroll down to the first word found.
-
Find Files or Folders will also search in the Project URLs and descriptions.
-
If you export Web sites to CHM (HTML Help) files, they will have the search feature enabled.
The new version also adds the new “Levels” tab where you can view the links structure of all downloaded pages, and get the desired links by selecting them and clicking on the Download button.
The download directory now contains an automatically updated default.htm file, with direct links to the starting pages of your projects. This can be very useful when browsing downloaded sites without running Offline Explorer.
There are few other Export improvements:
-
You now have the ability to disable popup links in Web pages;
-
There is a new feature to open exported files automatically when the process finishes;
-
You can now automatically FTP upload an exported site.
