MetaProducts Corporation has released Offline Explorer Pro v. 1.9, a Windows 98/95/Me/NT4/2000 application that lets you download Internet directories, files, and entire web sites, and work with them offline.

With its ability to download up to 500 files simultaneously, Offline Explorer lets you quickly and easily move Internet data to your hard drive. Browsing from your hard disk is much faster than from the Internet, even if you have a cable connection. With Offline Explorer, you can download the web site you want during off-peak hours, when throughput is fastest. And you can browse it offline, when you`re not connected to the Internet at all.

Offline Explorer decreases psychological wear and tear by making web sites available when you need them, even if the Internet is slow, or the target web site is unavailable. By putting important web sites on your hard drive, you`ve restored certainty and control to your surfing.

Offline Explorer lets you take the web site with you when you travel with your laptop computer. When the flight attendants ask everybody to disconnect from the Internet, you still have your web sites on your hard drive.

Many web sites change rapidly, and it is hard to find information that was there just days earlier. With Offline Explorer, you can make an archive of files that interest you, and access them at any time, even if the original web site no longer exists.

Offline Explorer`s powerful export feature allows you to share downloaded files with other people, transfer them to other computers, or even burn CD`s with your downloaded web sites. There is even an option to make Autorun CD`s, so when you insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive, your computer will open the downloaded web site automatically. This allows you to show web sites to friends and colleagues, without Internet connections and without having Offline Explorer installed on their computers. Best of all, these web sites can be viewed on Windows, Macintosh, and Linux computers.

Thanks to Offline Explorer`s powerful scheduling feature, you can automatically monitor web sites, and download changed information. Offline Explorer also includes a unique Schedule Manager that gives you an easy, visual way to create your schedule. Just use drag-and-drop to assign a time to check the web site to any downloading project. To automate tasks even more effectively, Offline Explorer Pro edition has the ability to use macros that will download different URL`s according to the date, time, weekday, month or year. You can also set up Offline Explorer to dial the Internet when necessary, and hang up the connection, exit itself, or shut down the computer once all downloads are complete.

If you have an Intranet, you can easily share downloaded web sites with your colleagues, without the need to transfer files. Offline Explorer has an internal web server that allows you to browse downloaded sites on other computers. With Offline Explorer, you can download an entire web site, edit it quickly on your hard drive, and load it back to the Internet.

Offline Explorer Pro edition makes it easy to analyze and post-process (data mine) any downloaded web site. Offline Explorer Pro can pass downloaded web sites to the powerful TextPipe tool that will extract or change the desired data, or even pump it to a database.

Offline Explorer`s simple, understandable interface makes it easy for you to become productive in minutes. At the same time, the program contains the tools you need to complete even the most difficult downloading tasks. The interface makes it easy to harness Offline Explorer`s dazzling speed, including its ability to download 500 files simultaneously.

In addition to automatically recognizing and supporting MS Internet Explorer, Netscape Communicator, Opera, and NetCaptor, Offline Explorer has its own built-in Internet browser. This enables you to view the Internet from a computer with no browser installed. You can also print downloaded web pages directly from Offline Explorer.

Offline Explorer supports the latest Internet technologies. Many web sites contain Java scripts, Java applets, cookies, post requests, referrers, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Macromedia Flash, XML/XSL files, Contents (.TOC) files, and MPEG3 list files (.M3U). Offline Explorer not only downloads these files, but also processes them to extract hyperlinks, and changes them for offline browsing. Thus, you get to see offline everything that was on the original web site, even if it was using the most up-to-date technologies.

In addition to downloading ordinary web sites, you can download FTP and secured (HTTPS) sites. Various proxy servers are also supported, giving you access from inside a firewall or Intranet (HTTP, SOCKS 4/5, User@Site).

Offline Explorer excels at downloading protected web sites, because it supports HTTP and NTLM authorization, it can submit logon forms, and it supports cookies and referrers. It is also possible to submit custom forms using a new feature in the program`s Internal Browser.

Defining and setting up a new Internet download project is flexible and easy. There are many ways to tell Offline Explorer what Internet pages you want to capture: You can use a Wizard, import from Favorites, Bookmarks, or Hot lists, drag-and-drop links from browsers, paste them from the clipboard, use the context (right-click) menu in MS Internet Explorer, or add them instantly from the address bar. You can even create a library of download project templates to simplify the creation of routine new project tasks.

All downloaded web sites are stored in their native format, with no proprietary databases or formats. All links are made relative, so it is easy to move them to another place, or even publish collections of downloaded pages on your own web server.

With Offline Explorer, you have full control while downloading. For each download project, you can specify which file types to load and which to skip, based on their file extension, size, or location. You can use keywords to specify servers, directories, or filenames to be allowed or disallowed for downloading. You can abort any file download by simply right clicking on it. Offline Explorer Pro allows you to manage the downloading queue. You can run, stop, suspend, and resume a download, or save it to a file to continue downloading later from exactly that point.

Project management is easy with Offline Explorer. You see all projects at once on the screen. Any number of projects may be started for downloading together. You can group them by folders. You can add, edit, delete, copy, paste, back up, restore, search, or export projects and folders. You can view the site map of any downloaded project and easily manage it.

Offline Explorer lets you overwrite old downloaded files with newer versions, or keep up to 10,000 copies of the older files. You can create a library, and monitor web sites as they change over time.

Offline Explorer Pro v. 1.9 costs $50(US) and can be purchased securely online at http://www.metaproducts.com. A lighter version of the program, Offline Explorer v. 1.4 Standard, costs $30(US). MetaProducts® Corporation has released Offline Explorer v. 1.3, a Windows 98/95/NT4/2000 application that lets you download Internet directories, files and entire web sites and work with them offline. Rather than tie up expensive telephone lines during peak or high-traffic hours, Offline Explorer lets you download valuable information from up to 500 web and FTP sites simultaneously and view, edit or browse them without being connected to the Internet.

Creating a new project for downloading is as easy as identifying the starting URL, specifying the number of levels into the web site that you wish to capture and deciding upon the file types that you want to include in the project. Using keywords, Offline Explorer allows you to selectively include or exclude individual servers, directories and files. Offline Explorer will begin to download all of the pages and files that you`ve named, with up to 500 files being captured simultaneously. It is easy to suspend and restart downloads, start downloads from a command line and even schedule downloads for unattended processing.

Once a project has been downloaded, you can use your default Internet browser or Offline Explorer`s internal browser to view the results. All of the downloaded web pages and files will have been renamed to relative names, allowing you to move the information easily to another hard drive or removable disk and making the web site completely portable.

Casual users will appreciate how easy it is to import bookmarks and favorites lists from popular browsers, or to drag and drop links from them. Power users will appreciate being able to specify file types and web levels, and to duplicate existing project templates when creating new projects. Offline Explorer provides support for JavaScript, Java Classes, Cascading Style Sheets, Macromedia Flash and Table of Contents files.

Offline Explorer v. 1.3 costs $30.00(US) and can be purchased securely online at http://www.metaproducts.com. Offline Explorer Pro v. 1.3 costs $50.00(US) and offers additional capabilities, including nested folders in the projects tree, a separate download directory for project folders, URL macros, multiple URLs for each project, the ability to keep old copies of loaded files, a downloading queue tab and HTTPS protocol support for downloading from secured web sites. You can download trial versions of Offline Explorer and Offline Explorer Pro from the same URL.
